In a recent blog, we explained why you shouldn’t ignore your routine maintenance schedule whether you own one of our new or pre-owned Lexus vehicles. While we talked about getting your oil changed and rotating your tires, we didn’t discuss the need to have your transmission fluid changed. Just like it’s important to have your oil changed regularly, it’s crucial to get your transmission fluid replaced at certain intervals.
Your transmission relies on its fluid to keep its moving parts lubricated. Because they generate more heat than manual transmissions, automatic transmissions also count on their fluids to keep them cooler than they would be otherwise. The frequency with which you’ll need to have your transmission fluid changed depends on several things. The first factor is the type of transmission your vehicle is outfitted with. Fluid in manual transmissions has to be replaced more frequently than fluids in automatic transmissions.
In general, cars with manual transmissions will need fluid changes every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. By contrast, cars with automatic transmissions will only have to replace their transmission fluids every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, if it ever has to be replaced at all.
The type of things you do with your vehicle will also influence how often you’ll need to change your transmission fluid. If your car has a manual transmission and you use your automobile for heavy-duty tasks, you’ll likely have to replace your transmission fluid every 15,000 miles or so, depending on the type of vehicle you own.
If your vehicle is due for a transmission fluid change, make an appointment to bring your automobile into our Lexus service center near St. Augustine, FL. For more information about transmission fluid changes, contact Lexus of Jacksonville.
