April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, so it’s a good time to explore some of the Lexus safety features that keep you focused behind the wheel. Many of these technologies are part of Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+), which can include the Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, and Proactive Driving Assist (availability varies by model, model year, and trim). To learn more about how your Lexus model keeps you aware on the road, Lexus of Jacksonville has pulled out the key safety features below.
What Is Lexus Safety System+?
Many new Lexus vehicles offer an available or standard driver-assist suite called Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+). Depending on the model, model year, and trim level, LSS+ may include technologies such as the Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, and additional support features designed to help monitor certain driving conditions. Always check your owner’s manual and your vehicle’s exact specifications, since feature availability and operation can vary.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist
One common sign of inattention is unintentionally drifting within or out of a lane. Lane Departure Alert (LDA) is designed to detect when the vehicle may be departing its lane (in certain conditions) and can provide alerts. If equipped, Steering Assist may provide gentle steering inputs to help support keeping the vehicle in its lane.
Pre-Collision System (PCS)
When a vehicle closes on a potential obstacle ahead, Lexus Pre-Collision System (PCS) can provide audio/visual alerts under certain conditions. If the driver does not respond in time, the system may help with pre-collision braking to help reduce speed and, in some situations, help mitigate or help avoid a collision. System operation depends on factors such as speed, environment, and road conditions.
Proactive Driving Assist
Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) is designed to provide supportive driving inputs in certain everyday situations. Using sensor data (such as a camera and radar, depending on vehicle configuration), PDA may provide gentle braking and/or steering support in specific scenarios—such as helping maintain following distance or providing assistance when approaching curves—when it detects conditions that may benefit from added support. Availability and functions vary by model and model year.
