Highway driving can be more convenient with Lexus Teammate, an advanced driver-assistance technology that includes Advanced Drive and Advanced Park. Advanced Drive can automatically control steering, acceleration, and braking on supported limited-access highways and, under certain conditions, allow hands-free operation while the driver remains attentive. Lexus of Jacksonville explains what the technology can do and how it works.
What Is Lexus Teammate?
Lexus Teammate is an advanced driver-assistance technology that includes Advanced Drive and Advanced Park. Advanced Drive is designed for supported limited-access highways and can automatically control steering, acceleration, and braking while helping maintain following distance, change lanes, navigate certain interchanges, and overtake slower vehicles. Under certain conditions, it can also support hands-free driving while the driver continues watching the road. Advanced Park assists with parking maneuvers by automatically controlling steering, acceleration, braking, and gear changes.
How Does Lexus Teammate Advanced Drive Work?
Advanced Drive uses an array of sensors to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, including cameras, radar, and LiDAR. The system also integrates with the vehicle’s navigation and localization technology to help plan driving actions along a programmed route. Lexus says Advanced Drive can plan actions approximately six miles ahead, helping it anticipate maneuvers while traveling on supported highways.
How Do You Use Lexus Teammate™ Advanced Drive?
Advanced Drive is designed for supported controlled-access highways and requires certain vehicle, road, and operating conditions to be met. When the system indicates that Advanced Drive is available, the driver can follow the prompts in the vehicle display to activate it. Hands-free operation is available only under certain conditions, and the driver must remain attentive, keep their eyes on the road, and be prepared to take control at all times. An active Drive Connect trial or subscription may also be required.
Is Lexus Teammate Self-Driving?
No. Advanced Drive is an SAE Level 2 driver-assistance system, not an autonomous driving system. Although it can provide hands-free assistance under certain conditions, the driver remains responsible for the vehicle and must continue monitoring the road and surrounding traffic. Be prepared to take control whenever necessary.
